The Solid Foundation for a Great Rafting Trip
A great rafting trip starts with a great rafting guide. What makes a rafting guide great? Lots of things and Maine river rafting guides can be great in lots of different ways. Guiding is a skilled job that definitely doesn’t get enough credit in the whitewater rafting industry. Great rafting trips start with great guides.
What makes great guides?
River guides aren’t born great, just like any job/sport they have to work for it. Guiding is a physical and mental skill set that can take years to hone.Guides must love whitewater.
- Guides must love whitewater. End of story.
- Guides need to be in paddling shape. #1 leads directly to #2.
- Guides need to be personable. This job isn’t your average customer service job. Guides have their guests in their raft and must talk and interact with them for about for about 8 hours a day. Very different from most customer service jobs with 10 minutes to an hour of interaction.
- Being mechanically inclined is a plus, but not a requirement.
