Get your Level I and II Maine Whitewater Guides License and a summer job with Penobscot Adventures
Would you like a summer job in guiding white water rafting trips? First you must become a registered Maine Whitewater Guide. Whitewater Guide you must train with an outfitter(Penobscot Adventures), pass the State exam, and be trained in CPR and Basic First Aid.
Our Level I whitewater training sessions will be held June 16th-22th. The training will include Safety Techniques, River Etiquette, Daily Procedures, River Rescue and lots and lots of Rafting!!! In short, everything you will need to pass the exam for the Kennebec River, except for CPR and Basic First Aid. These can be acquired through the Red Cross and must be completed prior to whitewater training or is available through us for an extra fee, please call for details.
Our Level II school will be held June th 21+22th on the Penobscot River. It is free for our Level I students or $100 if you got your Level I with someone else.
The cost of the training is $275. The fee includes your camping, a training manual, and use of all needed equipment (wet suits, life jackets, and paddle). You will be responsible for your meals. The training class will be limited to 12, so if you're interested you should let us know right away.
After you have completed the guide training you will be ready to take the State exam for the Kennebec River and Dead River and become a Registered Maine Whitewater Guide, Level I. The application/testing fee is $103.00 plus $89.00 for a three year license.
As a Registered Maine Whitewater Guide you will be able to work for any rafting outfitter. However, we do ask you to train with us if you plan to work for our company. We prefer to hire the guides we train as our program focuses on the high standards we require from everyone on our staff.
To train with Penobscot Adventures we need from you:
- A completed Guide Application Form (available below)
- A copy of your first aid and CPR
- A non-refundable payment of $467 - (course fee $275 + application/testing fee $103 + license fee $89), payable by cash, check, or credit card
