Navigating a whitewater rapid, even if its only class II, by yourself for the first time delivers an euphoric high that most people never experience. Equipment and teaching techniques have taken huge strides in the past five years. Its never been easier to learn.

Our instructors are the key to the paddling experience. All of our instructors teach because they love paddling. They spend their free time honing paddling skills. All of our instructors use ACA (American Canoe Association) certified white water teaching techniques.
Whitewater Kayaking Courses
Beginner I - Intro to Whitewater Kayaking
The Beginner I Course introduces students to whitewater kayaking. We teach basic, fundamental, boating skills such as proper dress, wet exits, basic strokes, boat balance, safety, river features, group safety and dynamics on the river. The course starts in flat water on the lake and progresses to moving water and Class II Rapids.
Beginner II - Refined Fundamentals of White Water Kayaking
Our Beginner II Course builds on the skills taught in our Beginner I Course. The course starts with a review of basic skills, then builds and and refines their paddling techniques. New skills such as the Eskimo roll, bracing, and combination strokes will be taught. This advanced beginner class assumes you've taken a Beginner I Course or can demonstrate beginner skills and have moving/class II whitewater experience. This class will help you move on the become an Intermediate Class III paddler.
Intermediate - Putting It All Together
The Intermediate Course teaches good whitewater kayakers to be better. Participants should have basic knowledge of white water paddling and an accompished Eskimo roll. This course is designed for the skilled white water paddler seeking to expand their river running, playboating, and creeking skills. Penobscot Adventures believes all paddling styles stem from the same great fundamentals. abilities and is offered on the river best suited to the student's learning objectives.
Advanced/Private Instruction - We Answer Your Questions
The Advanced/Private instruction is offered on all rivers for students who seek to benefit from the advantages of one-on-one instruction, or instruction with friends of similar skills. Advanced/Private instruction is scheduled at the convenience of the customers, for all skill levels, and takes places at various locations depending upon the skill and goals of the student. Call our friendly office staff to check on course availability and to schedule lessons.
