Our Staff
Experienced Maine Rafting Guides
When our guests join us for one of our wonderful whitewater rafting trips, they expect a safe, small, personalized trip. Providing an excellent rafting adventure falls on the shoulders of our amazing staff.
All of Penobscot Adventures whitewater rafting guides are certified by the state of Maine rafting commission and have held their licenses for at least three years. They are the key to our great safety rating. Guiding whitewater rafts on a river is just like any other profession. It takes a few years to get comfortable.
Dan McDonald
Dan McDonald, hey that's me, I started Penobscot adventures with my wife Maureen in 2004. The 2009 season will be our 6th season in business. During the past 5 seasons we've had 2 wonderful daughters named Logan and Lucy. For more info about my wife and I check out our about us page.
Bob Lindblom
Our Whitewater Rafting Manager Bob Lindblom has been with Penobscot Adventures since it's inception in 2004. Bob is known for his ability to put fun in every whitewater adventure, and a bright smile on every Maine whitewater rafting guest's face. Bob was the most requested guide at Penobscot Adventures in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He's taken the lead for 2007 with his first request in early Feb.
Matt Higgins
Matt Higgins started with Penobscot Adventures in 2004. He's a great guy who likes to have a good time, and is always there when we need him to guide on the weekends. We'd like to see even more of Matt in 2006.
We saw a lot more of Matt in 2006; he came to work for us full time. He was between jobs, and took the time to work the ultimate summer job. Hope he makes it back again for 2007. Matt just got back from the grand canyon and would love to share his stories with you during the 2007 season.
Ben Pratt
Ben Pratt worked a few whitewater rafting trips for Penobscot Adventures in 2004. After being in Montana for part of the 2005 whitewater rafting season, Ben joined us full time in July. In 2006 Ben will be coming back, but he'll be leaving us early to run for the Maine State Legislature. Good luck Ben.
Ben won. Who would have thunk a raft guide could get elected to public office. Ben will be back for the 2007 season. He's out of session then.
Matt Swan
Matt Swan started the 2005 season with Penobscot Adventures. Matt guides rafts and teaches kayak lessons whenever he gets the chance. Matt didn't get up to work for us too much in the 2006 season. We did find out however that he brews a great oatmeal stout. He will be the first in line for the brew master job when we put in a microbrew.
Meaghan Swan
Meaghan Swan works off and on with Penobscot Adventures. She guides rafts and safety boats whenever she gets the chance. She's definitely Matt Swan's better half. In 2006 Meaghan joined the full time staff at Penobscot Adventures. In fact, she worked the most river days in the 2006 season.
"Crazy" Karl Betchel
Karl Betchel started with Penobscot Adventures in 2004, our first year. He never really worked full time until 2006. Krazy Karl is our jack of all trades, he takes video, slides, drives shuttle, cooks, and once in a while we let him guide. Karl's love of life has taken him from New Zealand to the Czech Republic and back again. He sees more of the world than most people I know.
Tony Phillips
Tony Phillips started with Penobscot Adventures in 2005. He's the only raft guide we have 100% trained by Penobscot Adventures. He's always available to work and does a great job when he's there.
