About Us - Penobscot Adventures Whitewater Rafting
Penobscot Adventures and the McDonald Family
This page of our website is kind of a running tally of our family business at Penobscot Adventures. It's not really a blog, but it gives good background. Hope you enjoy.
My wife Maureen and I both grew up in Central Maine. She attended Skowhegan area high school, and I went to “Valley” in Bingham. We met at The University of Southern Maine in Portland. She studied Psychology and I studied Biology. During the summers we both worked at Magic Falls Rafting Company in the Forks, ME. After graduation we decided that owning our own whitewater rafting company was the way to go. We're doing what we love. It's great being able to live and work with your significant other. Mo and I have been extremely lucky with the amount of time we get to spend with each other.
We purchased the Penobscot River branch of Magic Falls Rafting Company from Dave and Donna Naddeau in 2003. We provide the same great Maine whitewater rafting trips on the Penobscot River, but we’ve expanded to offer other great outdoor adventures. We offer whitewater kayaking lessons, paintball, rock climbing, and new Maine family rafting and inflatable kayaking trips on the Seboomook River. We also combine activities packages and lodging so folks can stay for a weekend or a week. We have a great camping, scenic waterfront cabin rentals and an amazing New England style inn.
In August of 2004 we discovered our family would be getting under way. Logan Mary McDonald was born on April 23rd 2005. She's even more of a blessing than I ever imagined. Before I became a parent, I believed I could imagine how much parents love their children. I was wrong. Unless your a parent you'll just have to take my word for it.
Logan was born at a hectic time of year for us. During the spring Mo and I typically work somewhere between 80-100 hours a week. During the Spring of 2005 we had to learn to take care of a baby also. 2005 turned into a great season for us. We're already getting started on the 2006 season.
The 2006 season has come a gone. We had another great whitewater rafting season and are looking forward to the 2007. We're going to raft Canada Falls on the weekends in July and August this year. It's another branch of the of the Penobscot River that offers Class III-V whitewater. We plan on offering this trip to people that have been with us for a while and would like to try something different. Also, we've another baby on the way for the 2007 season he or she should be born right around the start of our season. Look forward to meeting Liam Parker or Lucy Grace (we'll know in a few weeks) this Spring.
Lucy Grace McDonald was born on May 3rd 2007, four days before our first rafting trip of the year. Cool! I think Mo and I have learned one think about our life, if it isn't hectic we don't like it.
Hope to see you this year,
Dan McDonald, Co-owner/operator Penobscot Adventures
